The promotion of conservation and environmental protection

On December 12th, in Hai Phong city, International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN) organized program “2nd Alliance Halong – Cat Ba Initiative”.
The participants were the the leading cadres of Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, US Deputy Ambassador Susan Sutton, the Representative of US Agency for International Development (USAID), the Agency of French Development (AFD) and many businesses operating in Halong Bay, Cat Ba.

Contents of program

The delegates to program “2nd Alliance Halong – Cat Ba Initiative” focused on the following contents: designing standard set, certificating for yachts matching criteria of Council of global sustainable tourism; necessary policial, financial and technical requirements to obtain an effective treatment and waste collection system in terms of cost benefit for managing solid waste and sewage from cruise ships.

The representatives of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong city and organizations gave many comments to the standard set for yachts and solutions to protect and improve the environment in the area of Halong Bay – Cat Ba.

Support for alliance Halong – Cat Ba

The US government has provided financial support for alliance Halong – Cat Ba through US Agency for International Development, USAID, directly to two units: International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Centre for Marinelife Conservation and Community Development (MCD – a nongovernmental organization of Vietnam).

This year, the alliance has established a steering committee in order to improve efficiency for 2 contents: developing certification program for sustainable tourism for yacht business companies and supporting for UNESCO management in Halong Bay. It also proposed to expand the World natural Heritage Halong Bay including Cat Ba Island.
